About Jamaica

Jamaica is the third largest island in the Caribbean and lies 144kms south of Cuba and 161kms west of Haiti in the heart of the northern Caribbean. This is an island boasting something from everyone, with hundreds of mile sof soft white sand, a colourful cultural heritage, and the most stunning landscapes to explore. Pre-historic Jamaica was home to a volcanic landscape and the majestic mountains left from those times form the backbone of the island's centre. Add the 150 rivers, numerous waterfalls and a lush abundance of trees and flowering plants, and the scene is set for breathtaking natural beauty.

There are underground caves, rainforest areas and offshore reefs to visit, and Jamaica's tropical climate, with an average year-round temperature of 85°F, means it has a unique eco-system and a wealth of wildlife including 250 dazzling bird species.

Most visitors are drawn to Jamaica for its beaches especially Montego Bay, with its grand hotels and all-inclusive resorts, and laid-back Negril with its seven miles of stunning white sand beaches.

But there are also wild wetlands along the south coast; quaint seaside towns like Port Antonio, quiet and romantic; or Ocho Rios the centrepiece of Jamaica, famed for its market and exhilarating Dunn's River Falls.
